A weekend trip to Santa Fe with a friend was partially centered, for me, around a trip to a yarn store I had not yet visited. The little store, called Hacer, not far from Santa Fe’s main plaza, had a welcoming porch and occupied an old home. It was smaller than I had imagined with a nook to the right of the door, behind the large counter, full of yarn. My plan was to pick 9 different colors for a second attempt at Andrea Mowry’s Stripes! sweater. I had begun this sweater last year and never finished it - here you can clearly see why!
(First attempt at Stripes!) Those colors are not colors I feel super comfortable wearing. So, I’m trying again using colors I feel are more me-aligned and ones I am, actually, obsessed with. But, picking them out, oh my gosh… It wasn’t easy. My friend ended up sitting outside while I stripped off my outerwear and hat, overheating and feeling like the color stakes were high! When I finally found the corner with the Jamieson’s of Shetland Spindrift I found myself able to find and match the colors organically, with an ease that was clarifying and provided comfort. This time, I believe, the colors will work.
Meanwhile, I’m hoping I will be sharing my finished Autumn Alpine Bloom sweater designed by Caitlin Hunter in my next post.
I only have two thirds of one sleeve left!
This weekend I haven nothing planned except for a long muddy walk with a neighbor and two of my three doggos. And knitting group of course. I envision knitting, tea, (but first coffee) listening to the book I’m reading (and loving) called In Between Two Kingdoms: Memoir of a Life Interrupted by Suleika Jaouad.
What are you working on? I really hope you share a few words.
What a beautiful sweater, your work is exquisite. I’m working on a blanket but mostly I’m writing my next novel and most days I also write a funny poem, just because it makes me happy!
That's a beautiful sweater! And thanks for the book suggestion. :)
