We just returned from Scotland. I have been wanting to write about the rugged and remote beauty on those edges of the land, but can’t seem to find the words. Instead I’ll share my new pattern and just a few photos.
We hiked every day until it was too dark —at 4 p.m. Dusk in the Shetlands began as early as 3. During these long, quiet evenings on the far northern islands (well above the Orkneys), I finally found the time to knit, crochet, and perfect this pattern—thanks to plenty of frogging (again and again!) and my amazing testers.
Today, I’m thrilled to release The Lerwick Hat, named after the port town we reached early on a Monday morning after a 12-hour car ferry from Aberdeen. The unforgettable view of gray stone buildings, accented by pops of unexpected color on doors, windows, and boats, became the inspiration for this design.
