Good Morning!
One of the updates at my Thursday knitting group was. “My refrigerator light burnt out.” It was so endearing and just perfect because that is how the knitting group is. We meet weekly 25 miles north of a relatively small town in Northern New Mexico, in a library with geraniums lining the windows and a view of the mountain range out the back. I hate missing it and only miss it when I am traveling. I’ve been attending since August of last year, but the group has been active for years. I have taught Group Therapy and Counseling multiple times for undergraduates and it is one of my favorite classes to teach because the dynamics of groups are so fascinating. And this one is so supportive and real. I think I love being a part of the group too, because in my professional life, I am a psychotherapist so I don’t share my own experiences often, I’m usually just a listener. Being able to talk and partake fully and naturally feels refreshing and the group satisfies this craving to be “a part of.”
The conversation flows organically, touching on topics like rabbit breeding, mountain walks, family health issues, wildlife sightings, knitting, and crocheting. Oh and dogs. I think we all love our dogs. We even have a German Shepherd and Austrailian Sheep Dog mix, Granger, who joins us weekly. We've enjoyed incredible baked goods made with sourdough discard. Two new babies sometimes join us, and we share updates on community deaths. It’s low-key and real. As I look forward to my Thursday and Sunday knitting groups, I enjoy the comfort of being able to sit quietly amongst the conversations as well.
I can’t believe it took me this long to find and join a knitting group. How about you?
The cacti are blooming, their flowers appearing briefly before closing again. I'm grateful to see them on my evening hikes. With summer here, hiking is best in the evenings or early mornings. At 7,434 feet (2265 meters) above sea level, it stays cold for a long time. Farmers in the area say to wait until there's no snow on the mountaintops to plant. I've been working in the garden, watering our new plants and doing SO much weeding. We bought our first home just after COVID started, and I'm thankful to finally live where I can plant and enjoy perennials year after year. I might be out of control with my planting, but seeing the results is so much fun. And the color!
I can’t share many of my projects right now, because they are secrets. Hopefully, by my next little knitting update, I’ll have the photos.
I did finish this baby blanket heading to Berlin with me next month for a new baby boy! The blanket is called Berlin Baby!
Oh and by the way, the lightbulb in the fridge was replaced by the landlord. The member who talked about it, says she has the best landlord ever. That’s a win, for sure!
Enjoy your Saturday, I hope it is just how you like it!
